Today we are sharing another recent hair retouching project created for an AHIA Creative 2026 finalist collection.
This six-image series uses a clean white background, vivid styling and warm, saturated skin tones. The simple setting places all attention on the models and the hair.
A white background may look straightforward, but it leaves very little room for error.
The Challenge of a Clean White Background
Dark or textured backgrounds can absorb small imperfections. White backgrounds reveal almost everything.
Fine flyaway hairs become more visible. Rough masking stands out immediately. Small changes in brightness can also make one image feel disconnected from the rest of the collection.
Our work focused on keeping the backgrounds clean and consistent without making the models look cut out. The hair edges needed precision, but they also had to remain natural.
Preserving Fine Hair Detail
Hair rarely forms a perfectly solid outline.
Loose strands, fine texture and transparent edges all contribute to its shape. Removing too much can make the styling look artificial. Leaving too much can make the image feel unfinished.
For this collection, we refined distracting flyaways while protecting the strands that supported the original styling.
The aim was not to create a flawless digital edge. It was to keep the hair believable while giving the images a polished competition-ready finish.
Controlling Warm Skin Tones
The collection uses a strong, warm colour treatment. That warmth forms an important part of its identity, but saturated skin tones require careful control.
Different areas of the face and body can respond unevenly to strong colour grading. Reds and oranges can quickly become too dominant, especially against a neutral white background.
We balanced the skin across the full series while preserving the bold tonal direction. We also maintained natural transitions, texture and dimension so the finish did not become flat.
Consistency Across Six Images
A finalist collection needs to work as a complete set.
The white backgrounds, skin treatment, contrast and hair detail all needed to remain consistent across the six photographs. At the same time, each image still required individual attention.
Professional hair retouching often depends on these small decisions. No single adjustment defines the finished collection. The result comes from careful work across hundreds of details.

Clean studio imagery can be as demanding as a complex composite.
With fewer visual elements, the quality of the hair retouching, beauty retouching and colour work becomes even more important. Every decision remains visible.
This AHIA Creative 2026 finalist collection is another example of the award-focused hair photography post-production handled by our studio.
